Textile collage and hand embroidery on vintage fabric.

This piece depicts the constellation of Cygnus and a flying swan. The stars and swan’s body are made of vintage silver fabric, his wing feathers a variety of vintage brocades and patterned fabrics, and hundreds of tiny hand embroidered French Knots connect the stars and make up the moon. The swan’s head and foot are hand embroidered using a needle painting technique. The whole picture gently sparkles at night! The background fabric is 1960s Faye Hillier for Heals “Osier” fabric, which is in the V&A collection.
