Muntjac & Moth
Muntjac & Moth
Hand embroidery and goldwork on vintage fabric.
This muntjac doe is surrounded by the constellation of Taurus. The reddish star to the right of the doe is Aldebaran, the brightest star in the constellation, and the eye of the Bull. In Hindu mythology Aldebaran was known as Rohini, a young woman who disguised herself as a deer. The doe and ermine moth were hand embroidered, while the constellation was painstakingly embroidered in goldwork, making it sparkle beautifully! The background fabric is a mid century painterly abstract cotton.
